Roundtable Reading: Sisters by Raina Telgemeier

  • Reading led by

Jennifer Gordon is a librarian at Malcolm X Elementary School, Berkeley.

Raina can’t wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born, things aren’t quite what she expected. On a weeklong road trip from San Francisco to a family reunion in Colorado, in a van without air conditioning, the sisters navigate more than their differences. Telgemeier uses her expressive, cartoon-style drawings to bring content and emotion to the text, which is almost entirely dialogue, in this relatable graphic novel.
